We have developed a new invention for railway survey and monitoring by EDM.

The rail-fixed Sentripod TM returns an EDM measurement or coordinate from vertical or horizontally mounted pods. Design features include snap on / snap off application; long life, no maintenance, splash guarded; variable aperture; low cost.

The patent application relates to the specification for retaining, viewing and shielding the pods. As a valuable track geometry tool, it facilitates daily observations translated into gauge, versine, interval cant and twist data on the railway. It is also multi directional.

A single Technician replicates the work of a five or six man team in red zone railway work, whilst accuracy will depend upon the instrument and a good Surveying Discipline, it has been proved to be more accurate, consistent and reliable than traditional methods. Even spirit levelling and tache survey depend on the steady hand of the staff man and errors of 10mm to 20mm are common. It is generally possible to remote monitor track in bays of 200 metres to accuracies within 3mm by fixed pod sighting. Speed and real time monitoring by robotic observations, even at night can reach 150 per hour.
